South Central Kentucky offers many choices for excellence in education, with several public school systems and a number of private schools that offer many K–12 educational options for parents. In addition, Bowling Green is home to Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green Technical College and Daymar College.

WKU’s undergraduate division provides four-year programs leading to bachelor of arts, bachelor of fine arts, bachelor of general studies, bachelor of science, bachelor of science in nursing, and bachelor of music degrees. Eighty-eight academic majors and 57 academic minors are available. In addition, 18 associate's degree programs leading to associate of arts, associate of science, associate of applied science, or associate of general studies degrees are offered. Graduate Studies offers the master of arts, master of arts in education, master of business administration, master of science, master of music, master of public service, master of public administration degrees, and doctorate of educational leadership.
The college offers associate degrees, diplomas and certificates in more than 30 programs in the areas of allied health, applied technology, business, and engineering and information technology. In addition, BGTC now houses the Adult Education Center in Bowling Green for GED preparation, family literacy programs and English as a Second Language (ESL). The college also offers business and industry training both on-site at area businesses and at BGTC campus locations.
Daymar College includes a campus in Bowling Green and in the Tennessee locations of Nashville, Clarksville and Murfreesboro. The Bowling Green campus had an 88 percent job placement rate last year and had a retention rate of 72 percent.
